Deadline Update: Kansas Nonprofit Biennial Report

What Are the New Kansas Biennial Report Deadlines?

Effective immediately:

  • Kansas nonprofit corporations must file their biennial reports by June 15 of their respective odd or even year.
  • Kansas for-profit corporations must file by April 15 of their respective odd or even year.

This applies regardless of your organization’s fiscal year-end.

Why the Change Matters

Previously, the due date for Kansas biennial reports depended on your fiscal year. Now, all Kansas businesses, whether on a calendar year or a mid-year fiscal year, must follow the standardized biennial due dates.

Failing to file on time can lead to delinquency status, limiting your organization’s ability to file other documents. If you don’t file within the three-month delinquency window, your business may forfeit its registration, requiring reinstatement and payment of past-due filings.

How This Affects Kansas Nonprofits

Many nonprofit organizations use a mid-year fiscal year and may not realize their Kansas biennial report is now due by June 15. This change applies to all nonprofits incorporated in Kansas, even if you’ve previously followed a different schedule.

If you miss the June 15 deadline, your nonprofit risks falling out of good standing and jeopardizing your ability to operate smoothly in Kansas.

Kansas For-Profit Corporation Deadlines

For-profit businesses now face a fixed April 15 deadline for their biennial reports, based on the odd or even year of formation. While most for-profits operate on a calendar year, those that don’t must still meet the April 15 filing date.
